In the summer of 2021, I thought I would be traveling for summer vacation however, I participated in a much more meaningful project. Led by Miwa Takeuchi (My amazing mentor) we created a summer camp that provided opportunities for refugee students to connect with the land.

When Covid first hit in the spring of 2020 I was in the middle of my final teaching practicum. I was sad that it was cut short but, knew it was necessary in order to help slow the pandemic.

Wanting to continue practicing my teaching skills I teamed up with the University of Calgary Werklund School of Education to volunteer tutor.

This CTV interview highlights my goals in volunteer tutoring alongside the voices with those in our community.

When schools abruptly closed in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, pre-service teachers quickly stepped up to volunteer as online tutors. 244 of us quickly stepped up to fill the void experienced by K-12 students across the province.

Learn more about this project and hear from Mike Holden (one of my mentors) about the logistics and outcomes of our work.

Ever since I was a little girl, I remember volunteering with my family at The Mustard Seed. Poverty and homelessness is an issue that affects tens of thousands of people in our province. It has been a heartwarming experience to be able to help the less fortunate get back on their feet. I have met some amazing people and heard dozens of eye-opening personal stories.

When I first started my undergraduate degree, I joined the University of Calgary Mustard Seed Chapter. Pictured is my executive team where we donated $3,500 to The Mustard Seed all thanks to the generosity of those in our community.
